IN 2027 ADARE MANOR WILL PROUDLY HOST THE RYDER CUP

Where can you play golf against a backdrop of Irish parkland scenery, next to the sweeping banks of the River Maigue, with the ruins of a Franciscan Abbey alongside you, in the shadow of a mighty and ancient castle? All just a stroll away from a charming Irish village dotted with old world thatch cottages and full of history? It must be Adare Manor Golf Club.

This world-famous golf club has its home on the grounds of the premier Adare Manor -  the former seat of the Earl of Dunraven and Mount-Earl in County Limerick and dating back to the 17th century.

This stunning course welcomes golfers from around the world to its challenging championship 18 holes – and all find the tree-lined fairways a serious golfing challenge. The course was built in 1995, with a 14-acre lake dominating most of the front 9 and the back 9 taking golfers through heavily wooded areas. Golf course designer Robert Trent Jones Snr believes the par 5, 18th hole is “possibly the best par 5 in the world”

The course hosted the Irish Open for consecutive years in 2007 and 2008: at the latter tournament Lee Westwood shot a round of 64 to take the world record. In 2010, the JP McManus Pro-Am was held here – welcoming some of the world’s biggest names, including Tiger Woods, Jose Maria Olazabal and Ernie Els.

Designed by Tom Fazio, The Golf Course at Adare Manor is located along the banks of the River Maigue. Measuring 7,509 yards with a par 72 from the Championship tees, the course has many tee options for all levels of skill. The course features meticulously groomed turf, wall to wall, with no real rough in play. 14 of 18 greens are elevated and boast tightly mown low-cut A4 bentgrass surrounds which place the emphasis on a variety of short game recovery shots. Off the tee, the wide fairways have strategic bunkering, mature hardwood trees, and contoured slopes which place an emphasis on shot placement. This firm and fast sand capped layout requires the proper line and angle of attack to score. The subtle greens has the latest Pure Distinction bentgrass with full Sub Air system feature unique shapes that create a variety of hole locations requiring careful thought and club selection on the approach shots.

In the past, most players have travelled to Ireland to play the wild Atlantic Links layouts. Now Ireland can also offer the finest inland parkland traditional style layout, with an emphasis on strategic shot placement, set on the grounds of one of the finest manor hotels in the world.

However, as every great golfer knows, it’s all about the numbers, so here they are:

  • 12,055 square metres of Pure Distinction bentgrass USGA putting surfaces
  • New perennial ryegrass tees and fairways
  • 170 acres of low-cut sand capped grass, wall to wall, with no rough in play
