The Course
The incomparable Royal County Down Golf Club was voted number 1 golf club in the world by Golf Digest, and you won’t battle to see why. The club enjoys a premium location – just north of the coastal town of Newcastle, on Ireland’s east coast, and 30 miles south of Belfast. The beautiful Mountains of Mourne form the backdrop to your game, with the links stretching up along Dundrum Bay. You couldn’t ask for a finer panorama of coastline and mountain – or a more legendary club at which to play.
The Championship course measuring 7,037 yards is a Par 71 and is recognised as one of the finest links tests in the world. The course snakes and undulates to challenge your game – combining tight fairways, grassy-topped pot bunkers and challenging greens.
The 9th hole is one of the most photographed holes in world golf – a 486-yard par 4 that is played from the side of a massive mound of about 60 feet, down to a fairway. The second shot is played from the bottom of the slope, over two bunkers to a raised green.
This beautiful course is alive with colour – the golden dunes, purple heather, lush greens and golden gorse. You’re truly in for a game with a view, from every hole.
